The Seoul market

Alright, I have been here a month now, so I think its time for me to share what this market is like..
First off, it is completley different from Hong Kong, as expected of course because they are different countries!

Castings: For castings you have a driver that takes you to them, you and the other models line up, and wait until its your turn to be talked about, and looked upon by the client. First, the client takes your comp card, then looks at your book. While this is happening, your driver is telling the client everything about you.
Then, they may or may not take a photo of you. They might just look through your book, and thats it!

Jobs: Again, you have someone who brings you to your job, and they also stay with you the entire time you working. They are there to translate what the photographer and the other artists are saying to you. It's wonderful! Also, here in Korea, their half days are five hours, and full days are ten. But, most of the time, when they say that it a half day, they usually turn into fulls ha ha. No matter what job you are at, they always feed you, and take at least one break.

Living in Seoul or me has been such an experience, with a lot of ups and downs. Sense its my first trip being alone, its expected to go through so many emotions. well, its even expected when your not alone! Its all just very overwhelming at times. Luckily I have been working at least 4-6 days a week, So i haven't had much time to really sit around, because thats the time when you star thinking about family, and home.

I love my agency here, their all really nice! Its such a friendly environment to work in.
I wish I could stay longer, as I was invited to.. but I have exams to do, and a graduation to attend!

19th of march

Ive never experienced exhaustion until last week. Every day for 12 hours or more,8 days in a row, shooting can run your body down. BUT, I had sooo much fun doing it, and thats really all that counts. Again, thats what im here for, to work!

Im almost at the one month mark of being here in Seoul, and honestly I still haven't actually been downtown Seoul as of yet... sad i know. I also dont know much about the metro, but i am determined to learn. Because i want to shop, and in order to do that, i have to subway. <3 <3

Yesterday I went to the biggest indoor/outdoor amusement park here, and it was great! I loved it, it was like a really small Disneyland. It was a lot of fun. Today, I went to a 63 floor building that has a lookout deck at the very top, an imax, and an ocean world. The view from the observation deck was crazy! Seeing all of the bright lights covering the buildings made me even more in love with this city.

Im really liking Korea so far, its been very good to me work wise, and the city being beautiful is just a bonus.
People are nice, food is good, and i am absolutely in love with my heated floors in my apartment, haha!

Sleep?

This past week has been craziness - which means I end up with little rest.
Thats alright though, I looooove my job a little bit more each time I shoot!

Last Tuesday my dad flew in for two weeks, just to visit and sight see.. (He has sight seen himself, as I dont have the time) I even work all this weekend. Did I mention I love the market here in Korea?

Sense being here in Asia, I have learned to actually smile for a modeling picture! HAHA YES, SMILE!
Not the whole death glare thing all of you are used to seeing from me...
I feel that This experience has made me so much stronger as a model, i am so thankful i had the chance to come over to Asia. But, after five months of being here, I am for sure ready to go back home! And see my family, and hug my boyfriend! I definitely miss them all <3

Day 4

Its only day four - and it feels like I have been here for almost a month! But, thats also how it felt when I was setteling in HK also..  I have sucsesfully booked two jobs, ( they are both catolauge), so I am very happy about that, seeing how its only my fourth day in. I havent really been exploring around yet, but when I am driving to and from castings, I see a lot of cool little places along the way.
I have yet to find a good resteraunt, only because I am one of those people who don't like sitting alone at a resteraunt! I guess I have to get over that haha.

Today I went to a casting, and lying on the couch, was the CUTEST, and I mean cutest kitty ever! It was a white persian, with a lion cut, my roomy and I were siriously debating weather or not to take it home as our appartment pet! But we decided getting the job was more important hahah. It wouldent go to smoothly if we tryed to steal their kitty.

I am really loving it here, and Im soo pumped to experince even more of Seoul! Being alone is hard, even though it has only been four days, it feels like forever. But Im loving every minute of it!

Seoul!

Woooooho! So, I finally made it to Korea after only a four hour flight. First impressions are everything, and my firs impression of Seoul was amazing! Everything around is so interesting, and very modern as well. On my drive from the airport, all I could do was look out the window. My nerves never really set in, until i was walking up to my modeling apartment..

To my surprise the apartment is HUGE, and i even have my own room! I love it, its so adorable.
There is only 3 other models here, that have already been here for a while..  their very nice,
so thats a bonus :)

This morning when i woke up, it was around 8:30ish, so i decided to explore. When i stepped out of my apartment, it was drizzling rain a bit, it didn't bother me at all! Im soo used to Vancouver weather, plus it made me feel at home. But as i started walking, the rain began to fall harder, and the wind became to blow harder, so i stopped in a coffee café, and got a green tea latte. After my latte, and a skype conversation with my family, i decided to go back home. I did not realize how far i actually walked, until i got lost, in the rain , with no umbrella. People were looking at me funny, i looked like a drown rat! my hair was soaked, and so were my clothes. Being lost in the pouring rain, IS NOT GOOD. Everything looked the same to me as i walked up and down the streets of my community.. Finally, after 45 minutes of wandering, i found it! Not only did i walk by it like ten billion times, but i also walked by a model that is living in my apartment, without me even knowing, until she came home later tonight and told me that she seen me! ohhh god, what a day Ive had.

My agency is SOOO nice, i just adore them. They are really sweet! They made sure i was comfortable, and even stayed with me for hours last night because i couldn't get my INTERNET to work! Their amazing..

Tomorrow i have three castings so far! And the really good part about it, is that i get drivin around everywhere! YAAAY, coming from hk, and having to get everywhere yourself, this is a big teat for me.

Anyways, im going to go to bed! Good night everyone, or good morning! Depends on where you are :)

Prada

SO, the other day i had the Honor to see the Hong Kong's Prada headquarters, and shoot an editorial in all Prada items for a magazine here. It was amazing! We shot in the Prada store in a mall, everyone was staring as i was doing my thing! It was so cute. No, it wasn't a campaign for Prada, but it was still really cool to do. I unfortunately wont be here to get the magazine, as i leave on the 26Th, but i will for sure put up photos when i receive them.

Oh, and heres a little tip to all models out there! NEVER go into a casting thinking it will be easy... you never know what the client will ask you to do. I went to a call back for this big paying property job last week, everything was going great until they made a strange request.. he said "girl, close your eyes, look like your inside a firework, k go!" uhhhhhhh, wait a minute, how does one look like their inside of a firework?
Anyways, lets just say ill be shocked if i get it! hahahah.

Happy new year!

Chinese new year is so quiet! I never would have thought..
Back in Canada when i would hear the phrase Chinese new year, i pictured a lot of
excitement, and parades. Kind of weird how our mind works.

My last shoot which was two days ago, was sooo fun, but sooo very long. I didn't even know
it was possible to shoot 56 outfits in one day. In Vancouver I thought 6-12 outfits was a lot.
I loved shooting with the photographer, he was fun, funny, and wants to shoot me again! Which
is always good :)

Having only three weeks left here in HK is so hard to believe, it went by so fast.
I remember how I was feeling on the plane to come here, feeling so overwhelmed
and my nerves were incredibly high. But now that i have lived here for three months,
i cant even imagine what i was so afraid of. HK is so safe, and such a wonderful place.
It has hit me that I'm going to Seoul soon, but not that I'm going alone. After being here
with my mom for the whole three months, going to Korea alone will seem very weird.
But I'm SO stoked to finally learn that i can do this all on my own.

Funny little fact about the New year here in hk,
People here have a lot of rules they follow very specifically during there NY.

1) Don't wash your hair on NYE, its bad luck.
2) Don't do house work for a week
3) Stay in all day, on the day of your choice
4) Leave fruit outside of your house for budduh ( outside of our apt, there is oranges everywhere )

These are the only rules that i know of, I'm sure there are more!

This week.

This coming week i have a job for a designer here - Catherine Dene. Her designs have been worn
by stars everywhere, such as Selena Gomez, Brittany snow, Kaley cuoco, and more. I'm so excited to
show off her new line, her stuff is breathtakingly beautiful. You guys should really check her stuff out!

Sense Chinese new year is coming up, i can see it being slow for models here. Not that many castings will
be held, so ill have to keep myself busy! Thinking of Chinese new year, i picture festivals and a lot of
things going on in the streets. But i was told that it actually gets pretty quiet around here, because families
spend it together, and share gifts with one another. Its kind of just like our Christmas! I was also told that
the color red is their lucky color. Which explains why most of their traditional outfits have red on them.
Another interesting fact I've learned is that the number four, is supposed to be an evil number. A lot of buildings do not have a 4th or 14th floor here. And lots of families only have 3 kids at the most..

I have learned so much about hong kong, and the way of life here. Now, i am ready to learn about Korea.
I already know one thing about Korea, and that is that I'm going to love the food! I'm also going to enjoy finally living in a models apt, sense i have not done that yet, it will be new to me. It will be my first trip ever being without any one of my parents, for so long. And I'm glad to say I'm pretty confident that I'm ready to do this alone! As, i am 18 this year..

And I cant wait to share with you all about my Korean adventure!!

One Month Left in Hong kong

So its been two months in Hong Kong already, time has gone by quickly (at first it went by so slow) This last month I'm sure will fly bye. I have to say even though there has been ups and downs here, I'm so glad Hong Kong was my first place of travel, its been such an amazing learning experience for me (Next my mother agency told me it would be, and they where so right ) Here in HK you have to get yourself around, which as hard at first "sooo HARD lol" but now its a piece of cake I don't know why I stressed out so much. You basically sit back and wait for a text for either a casting or a job, and then its up to you to find it, and sometimes with the language barrier its not easy, (Elite is always there if you need them though, they are great).  Its going to be so nice to go to a market that takes you to jobs and castings after 3 months of foot work here.. But the advantages are it gets you ready for markets like Europe and New york, you get very experienced with a map lol, and its great EXERCISE!!

There has been a lot of casting to lately, they consist of magazine work, ads, look books(they pay quite well here for look books and events) . Some of the castings iv been to are for Colgate tooth past, CK, body shop, ect just to name a couple and are between 1-3 a day which is enough considering you get yourself around on your own. Oh and a little tip about HK most ppl who what to book you here, have to see you first, so if they are interested in you, you have to go to the casting first, even if  its just you they are interested in, so always be ready with proper casting wear and good hair and always smile even when you think they are not looking...They ARE, and always be professional at all times, your not only representing yourself but your agencys, even if you're not picked you will be remembered, for maybe future jobs they might have :))

Iv been working a lot lately, which is always a bonus, its been a lot of events (which they do a lot of in HK) and they are quite fun.Yesterday I had a job for an advertisement for an electric company, its a 2 year ad Asia wide, it was so different from what I'm used to, it consisted of me sitting on the floor of mine and my  husbands new apartment with boxes from the move everywhere, looking at him lovingly switch on the lights. Its was interesting, different, but a refreshing (switch lol) and definitely a learning experience.
I can't wait till Feb though, that's when I get to do the big Campaign (What its for is still a secret for now) but I'm soo excited I was chosen for it after them looking for two months, its an amazing opportunity and I cant wait to share how it went and who its for .

It looks like I might not be going home, I'm still waiting on conformation from My agent on this, but she did say its an option if I was willing to keep traveling, and I have made up my mind that if its an option, then I'm going to take advantage of it, the more markets I can experience and learn from the better ( Thank you Lorraine and Lucy), and I'm so thankful I have such a wonderful agency helping me make these important decisions and a amazing Family who support me 100% , Im not looking to grow up too fast I love being 17, and I will take all the help and guidence I can.

Well good bye for now, I have to go to a casting for a jeans ad "wish me luck"
Love you all Alicia xoxo

Busy busy busy!

Lately, things have been really picking up here, work wise. Ive been getting a lot of castings, and jobs, YAY!
So i have been pretty busy, and haven't really had time to write on here. The other day, i worked for a makeup event, for a new whitening face foundation. It was really weird, all  had to do was sit there, well a makeup artist put makeup on me, and talked about what the product does. Then, i just had to sit there look pretty, and mingle with the media. It was actually a very cool experience. Although, speaking with a language barrier between me and another person, was somewhat difficult. All conversations i had that day, were the exact same. The basic info about yourself, and just the simple "how are you" question, then that long awkward smile you share with everyone around you. Haha.

Oh! I just discovered after one month of being here, that i can take a five minute ferry ride, rather then taking 3 subways to get to a certain place that my castings seem to all be at. I'm really happy i found the ferry! Saves me money and time..

Anyways, its bed time for me.. i just thought that i should at least write a little something sense i haven't in a while. Until next time, xoxo.
